Some fragrances have a story before you even spray them. Tonka Royale by Mango is one of those perfumes for me.
I first started looking for it while I was in Florence, but every Mango store I visited was completely sold out. Just when I thought I’d missed my chance, I finally found a bottle in Rome. It felt like one of those little travel victories that make a trip even more memorable. Unfortunately, Tonka Royale was a limited edition release and is no longer available, which makes me appreciate it even more.
The fragrance itself is warm, rich, and incredibly addictive. Every time I wear it, I can’t help but think of Kilian Angels’ Share. I wouldn’t call it an exact dupe, but it definitely gives me the same cozy, boozy, gourmand feeling that made me fall in love with Angels’ Share in the first place.
Maybe that’s why I treasure this bottle so much. It’s not just because of how it smells. It’s because every spray reminds me of wandering through Italy, finally finding it in Rome after searching all over Florence, and bringing home a fragrance that now carries those memories with it.
Some perfumes become favorites because of their scent. Others become favorites because of the story behind them. For me, Tonka Royale is both.
