Some layering combinations completely transform a fragrance. This one did not, and that is exactly why I loved it.
BDK Parfums Vanille Caviar is gorgeous by itself. This is not a sugary, fluffy vanilla. It is darker, denser and much more textured. Cocoa bean, Peru balsam and labdanum give the vanilla a rich, resinous depth, while its salty mineral quality keeps it from becoming another predictable gourmand. I did not layer it because it needed to be rescued. I simply wanted to add another layer of sweetness.
Enter KAYALI Yum Boujee Marshmallow | 81.
The layering combination.
I applied Vanille Caviar first, generously, and then sprayed Yum Boujee Marshmallow over it. Yum Boujee added exactly what I was looking for. Its pink marshmallow, strawberry and whipped vanilla made Vanille Caviar sweeter and a little fluffier around the edges.
But here’s the thing, it did not cover that darker vanilla I so love, or turn the combination into a strawberry-marshmallow dessert. Vanille Caviar remained the main character. Yum Boujee simply gave it a playful layer of sweetness. And that was the part I loved.
What happened during the wear?
The real surprise came later. Yum Boujee as lovely and as playful as she is, she eventually disappeared, while Vanille Caviar remained strong. Vanille Caviar maintained its sillage and longevity long after the marshmallow sweetness faded. I absolutely loved that I could still smell that gorgeous, textured vanilla projecting around me. Yum Boujee changed the opening and early drydown, but it did not weaken the fragrance underneath!
Vanille Caviar remained the foundation from beginning to end.
Why this pairing works.
Both fragrances contain vanilla, so they connect naturally. Their textures, however, are completely different.
Vanille Caviar provides a darker vanilla, cocoa and balsamic richness while Yum Boujee brings the airy marshmallow sweetness.
One remains the star. The other adds something specific. That is my favorite kind of fragrance layering.
If you already love Vanille Caviar but occasionally want it sweeter and fluffier, try adding Yum Boujee Marshmallow. It gave me exactly the extra layer I wanted, while Vanille Caviar still delivered the sillage and longevity I already love.
