Date Night Plus One

Date nights are few and far between. And when you have little ones at home it becomes even more of a task than something to look forward to. But we try to make it work.

This night we decided to go out and bring our little one along. We treated her to a Disney On Ice show and boy did we have a great time. Even if I can’t have him all to myself, its ok, I enjoy having our kids come along. I guess I’ll have to wait for another opportune time to make it just the two of us.

We ventured out into the cold and decided to go to one of our favorite local restaurants for dinner before the show. We visit this place quite often throughout the year. They always have an amazing selection of table fare and I especially enjoy whatever they happen to have in season. They seem to have a fantastic way of whipping up so many beautiful dishes! The idea was to have a nice and healthy meal thereby avoiding all the bad fun food at the stands; all except for the cotton candy…

Downtown Hartford has a lot to offer. Great restaurants, an exciting show and sports venue and quite a selection of fun bistros and bars that will appeal to everyone. Max Downtown is one of those great places you can count on for a fun evening of food and drinks. I love that they can cater to the family as well as the singles crowd. If you should ever be in the vicinity, I highly recommend you pop in for a drink or two.

Our daughter decided to bring along her little “twin” for the night. Her look alike American Girl doll.

Whenever I have the opportunity to enjoy a raw bar, oyster is always the choice. These were Blue Points from Rhode Island, sweet and insanely delicious! Oysters are always served along all the fixings, but any seafood connoisseur will tell you that when oysters are deliciously fresh all you need is a squeeze of lemon juice!

I ordered my favorite dinner drink, a Merlot. This was a Michael Pozzan and it paired very well with my seafood entree.

My husband doesn’t typically have a sweet tooth but he raves about the “Espresso Martini!”

The Max Chopped salad is amazing! Gorgonzola cheese, Sherry Mustard Seed Vinaigrette and all the fixings!

I ordered the “night’s special.” Sea Bass, Calamari and risotto stuffed Squid!

We completely skipped the dessert menu at the restaurant and opted for the always so messy  cotton candy. The  Disney On Ice Show theme was “Heroes and Princesses.” As always, Disney does a phenomenal job! In case any of you are thinking about going to see the show in your local area, I will not post any of the beautiful scenes from the show. Instead here is a sweet pic of my daughter and I, “Queen and Princess Diana.”

photoSo, my date night wasn’t exactly what I had planned for. It was better!
