The ‘unofficial start’ to summer has begun and today I’m sharing my annual reminder to stay safe from the sun during your outdoorsy summer adventures. While I don’t have fair skin by any measure, I do take great care when it comes to sun protection. Aside from the potential to burn, I make sure to avoid sun damage that can cause premature aging. And believe me when I tell you it makes a HUGE difference!
Aside from the obvious hats, sunglasses and even protective sun shirts and suits, here are some of my favorite face and body sunscreens that I use often and absolutely love!
FOR THE FACE
FOR THE BODY
FUN FACT: Are 100+ or 90+ sunscreens better than an SPF of 30? Have you ever wondered what the numbers on your sunscreen lotions and sprays mean? I found a really good article that breaks it down for you.
The answer to the above questions is basically NO. According to Florida dermatoligist, Dr. James M. Spencer, an SPF 15 product blocks about 94% of UVB rays; an SPF 30 product blocks 97% of UVB rays; and an SPF 45 product blocks about 98% of rays. “After that, it just gets silly,” he says. Spencer recommends SPF 30 products to his patients. “The best way to make sure you are protected is to reapply sunscreen often. You just can’t put it on in the morning and forget about it. I don’t care if it’s SPF 800 or the best UVA protection, after a few hours it’s gone.”
