Sun Protection 101

I LOVE spending time at the beach. I mean, I REALLY love it! Come summertime I visit the beach as often as I can. However, I always make sure to take care of how much sun exposure I take in. It’s so easy to get a sun burn and if you’re not careful, it can really hurt you! Summer sun protection 101As a Latina, I have what some call ‘a natural tan,’ usually considered as olive skin. It is light brown with golden or yellowish undertones. I tend to become more pale during the winter when my sun exposure is limited. My skin tans more easily than does fair skin, and I can get REALLY dark very quickly which will also last for months. Having said that, I can also get a sun burn just as easily.

Besides face creams and lotions with SPF and body sprays, I always make sure to bring along cover-ups, hats and a trusty umbrella. I try to avoid mid-day outdoor activities as much as possible in order to protect myself from peak sun exposure, my reason for giving up golfing, it’s not always possible but I do keep it mind.😉

Here are a few tips on how to avoid sun burn and protect yourself from those pesky UV rays, especially if you have fair skin without being a hermit:

  • SUNSCREEN This is a no brainer. I put sunscreen on my face every-single-day! I don’t leave my house without it and neither should you. Almost all of my makeup contains some sort of sun protection but when I’m not wearing makeup these do the job perfectly:

For face: Clinique Smart SPF 15 // Aveda daily guard SPF 30 // Josh Rosebrook Nutrient Day Cream SPF 30 // Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF 30

For body: Neutrogena Beach Defense // Supergoop! Mineral Sunscreen Mist // Sun Bum Mineral Spray

  • HATS I love wearing hats and I keep one or two in the trunk of my car for impromptu moments. With so many styles to choose from you simply can’t go wrong and it’s the easiest way to get sun protection for your face and hair. Winning!

A few favorites are: baseball cap // wide brim floppy hat // packable bow hat // outback hat

  • Protective Suits & Tops I personally don’t wear either of these. I honestly don’t feel the need but they are a great idea if you have very fair skin. There are so many options to choose from including styles and colors.

Some fabulous options: Swim Tee & Rash Guard // ReNew Rash Guard // Swim Shirt // Channel Surfing Shirt my favorite! // This long sleeve swimmie and this one too

Other ways to avoid a sun burn: an oversized long sleeve shirt for coverup at the beach. You can borrow his as it will do the job just fine, UVA & UVB polarized protection sunglasses is a must and don’t forget lip protection as well.

Here’s to a fun-filled safe summer ahead!☀️
