Did you get a chance to check out our Apple Pie recipe? Glor and her cousin Marlee had so much fun helping me. I made another apple dessert (will post that recipe soon) and used up all our apples so naturally we had to go back for more!
Off we went to gather more apples at our favorite Dondero Orchards. I brought along my tartan serape for the walk and I must say it is the absolute best thing I’ve found this season! I’m a huge fan of blanket scarves but at times struggle with wrapping it around myself and end up looking like a fool. The serape takes the guess work out and makes it super easy to wear and style. It’s functional, stylish and a must have for keeping warm when venturing to the orchards or pumpkin patch or a boat ride! It is seriously so chic and the classic print is perfect for the season. You might have seen me wearing it first here while on a boat ride in Newport. This will certainly be on repeat and for many years to come! It is a great investment and a very practical one at that.
The other two items I’m super excited about are the quilted quarter zip pullover from LLBean and my suede Born boots. The pullover is brushed inside for the coziest feel making it super soft and distinctively detailed with quilting. It’s perfect for layering and I’ll be using it all season long. I love it so much I also bought the deep olive as well. I suggest sizing down for a nice fitted look.
Another item I love styling during the fall are equestrian style boots. These are the Born Felicia Boots I bought last year and first worn here. I absolutely love the distressed look and feel of the soft suede. The detail of rawhide lacing in the back provides an adjustable, rustic flourish that slightly adjusts the fit at the calf. The inside is also lined with a warm and fabulous tartan print which I love! Mine are a dark grey and are also available in black and rust, true to size.Glor also wore a very basic but classic outfit perfect for the task at hand. We love her KAMIK rain rubber boots for the fall season. She wore them first here at our fishing expedition during the summer. They are just as fashionable and as practical as are the popular HUNTER boots but for a fraction of the price. I love the buckle detailing and contrast in color of the soles.
One of the things we look forward to when visiting Dondero Orchards in the fall (besides the fabulous selection of apples) is their amazing Apple Fritters! These things are to die for! Hot off the fryer, so sweet and every single one loaded with chunks of apples! Their Farm Stand is packed with all sorts of goodies. Fresh fruits and veggies, pies, soups, juices, pickled produce, berries and so much more! We always get fresh apple donuts as well! They also offer Farm Dinners for a limited time during the year. How does apple orchards, apple fritters and bottomless mimosas sound? Yes please! In celebration of the season Dondero Orchards will be hosting it’s first ever Fall Farm Brunch in partnership with popular breakfast joint Place 2 Be! This outdoor event will feature a seasonally appropriate apple themed menu using fruit from the orchard. Space heaters will be available and as well as friendly blankets to fight off any fall chill. And did we mention bottomless mimosas?
Brunch will be held on October 27th, from 12:30-3pm with 10% of the proceeds to benefit Hartford’s Camp Courant.
