A Brunette’s Hair Routine

Today’s beauty post is all about the hair. Quite frequently besides makeup questions I’m also asked about my hair. What I use to wash it with, what gadgets I use to dry or style it with, and even what color I’m into lately. In order to answer some of your questions today I’m sharing my specific hair routine.

hair-routine1I recently got a “trim,” if you call 5 inches off a trim, and even though I love having long hair it becomes incredibly high maintenance especially during the high humidity summer months. My stylist does a great job every time I see her and she always gives me an intense repair treatment. But because I have naturally curly hair, in order to keep it smooth and without the frizzies between salon visits I have to rely on several products to give me the support I need.

1 & 2. Pantene Color Revival Shampoo and Conditioners: Starting off with the right shampoo and conditioner makes a whole world of a difference. I’ve tried many brands over the years and I keep coming back to Pantene. It really helps extend the life of my color treated hair without fading or drying. And the 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner is a great alternative for travel.

3. L’Oreal’s Eversleek Oil Treatment: After washing my hair the first product I put on it while still damp is this awesome cocktail of oils! It delivers exactly what it promises, conditions and seals in smoothness without weightiness and smells great!

Next, if I don’t have anything pressing to do and whenever possible I let my hair air-dry otherwise I use the blowdryer. I follow up with my 2″ drum curling iron but not before using this:

4. Got2b Guardian Angel: This light mist insulates your hair from flat iron or curling iron frying to provide long-lasting sleek frizz-free locks with luminous shine effects. This is perhaps my hair styling must-have product!

5. Bedhead After-Party: I love this product and I love it’s name! This silky cream polishes off any funky flyaways and adds extra shine. Another fantastically smelling product too!

6. TRESemme Extra Hold Hairspray: I finish off all my work with this hair spray. I absolutely love how it gives me the perfect hold I need without stiffness and it works great against humidity.

For any last minute blow-dry touchups (e.g. bangs or short sections) I use the TRESemme Heat Tamer Spray for protection against heat and friction.

This is my typical hair routine. From time to time I’ll do a hair mask but I rely mostly on my stylist to do that for me. I’ll trim my hair every 3 or 4 months and touch up my roots as soon as the grey pops in. Because I use these products consistently my hair stays strong and breakage free for long periods.

Oh, and heads up, I don’t wash my hair more than twice a week, if that. This entire routine is when I wash only. For the days I don’t wash I simply touch-up by sections and spray into place. Did I miss anything? Do you have any products you recommend? Let me know…

Have a fantastic long weekend looking fly!
