Winter’s Wicked Hot Chocolate

This Hot Chocolate recipe is by far the best you will ever make! Most of us enjoy this hearty drink during the cold months and my version will definitely not disappoint. Forget about all the canisters or envelopes of the powdery stuff you find on the shelves of your local supermarket. After you try this one, I guarantee you will never go back. And the best thing is that this recipe can be adjusted to make a naughty drink for the adults!*girl with coco

Serving for 4 you will need:

  • 4 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened Coco Powder ( I use Hershey’s)
  • 1/4 cup of regular sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes
  • dash of salt
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract (the real stuff)
  • Marshmallows or Whipped Cream
  • *Optional; 2 Tablespoons Dark Rum, or to taste

Directions

In a medium saucepan, heat 4 cups of milk over low heat. Do not let the milk come to a boil.

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, sugar, pepper flakes, salt and the other 1/2 cup of milk. Add this mixture to the warm milk and whisk. Continue to warm until hot then remove from heat.

At this point add the vanilla extract and rum. (If adding rum, start with 1 Tablespoon then add more if needed).

If using marshmallows, place them in the mugs and ladle the hot cocoa over them. If using whipped cream, pour the hot cocoa in the mugs first then add a dollop of whipped cream on top. Use a candy cane as a swizzle stick! And if you want to make the presentation more festive just sprinkle some colorful sugar sparkles.

Enjoy!
