Winter’s Black & White

We are now well on our way to yet another colorfuI holiday. And as much as I love color, at times I like to take a brake from them and stick to some very basic themes.

I don’t let the cold weather deter me from putting together a great outfit. Layering is key and it gives me the opportunity to show my inner creativity. But having creativity does not mean going all out with an assortment of colors and patterns to the point where you’re mix matched. I’m more of a Audrey Hepburn/Jackie O. type, if you will. I consider myself traditional and as such I dress low key with an elegant twist. I can be casual and still give off a graceful look. Which brings me to the topic at hand, winter whites!

I have so much fun mixing patterns and colors. But I do so in a manner that each flatters the other. This can be a little tricky but with a little patience and know-how you can accomplish a polished look. During the winter I like to incorporate black and white. The soft white is refreshing and the bold black compliments it. I like to also throw in another color to brighten things up a bit. Whether it’s the shoes, the jewels or the bag I’m carrying, my whole look is pulled together with traditional flare. The best thing is that anyone can create a chic black and white theme with a little inspiration.

With that in mind, winter outfits don’t have to be baggy, burdensome or boring. Here I have a couple examples of pretty and practical black and white winter outfits that you can recreate for yourself. The white is soothing to the eye and breaks up the habit of wearing darks all winter.Don’t be shy about adding it to your winter wardrobe. But be careful when picking out white, make sure it is Winter White and not the stark white that is typically reserved for the summer months, big difference! I decided to put this outfit together for a lunch occasion.  My choice of shoes were a pair of mid-height patent leather wedges and a cute striped satchel. If the weather requires more cover up for the feet just put on a pair of oxfords instead.

Comfort. That’s what this winter outfit shouts. I want to be able to run around and get all my errands done in style and still have comfort. A very casual outfit that calls for the basics; pullover sweater, shirt and leggings. Notice the mixed pattern of the sweater, very chic! The entire outfit is simple, bright and warm. The shirt could be whatever color you feel like using that day; consider a soft yellow or red or even a beautiful green! The rain boots add a touch of prep and keeps the cold and rain at bay. But don’t limit yourself with just these, any boot type will look great. And don’t ever forget your statement necklace.
