As a high school junior Glor thought this would be a good time to get a headstart on the hunt for potential colleges. Earlier in the month our first visit was to URI. Aside from having a great Business program, fantastic athletics and Greek Life, it’s also in a familial great location. When we arrived for our tour it was packed to the gills with new potential future students. The informational sessions were great and our tour guide was terrific! There wasn’t a thing he didn’t discuss and he was super fun to listen to. The excitement and love he brought was felt and all the kids including Glor were left with the feeling of belonging at URI. The school is quite big (and still growing) and has a really beautiful (main) campus located inland with the second campus just a few miles away in Narragansett. This is a very chic area of Rhode Island with high summer traffic. This is also the spot where URI students (and students from surrounding colleges) find an active and fun social life.
The next school we visited was a local school in CT, just a 30 minute drive from our town to Quinnipiac University. Upon arrival we were greeted with such pomp and circumstance that it blew us away. Glor and I were so impressed by it all. After all the informational sessesions (which were very helpful and in depth) we were taken on a capus tour. While not quite as big as URI, it was an absolutely beautiful school with old New England charm. There were even a couple of old wooden bridges over small creeks within the campus adding to the look and feeling of a small village taken from a storybook, so pretty and quaint. Tucked away in a small town and just a few minutes away from New Haven, the school offers a fantastic Business/Marketing program perfect for Glor. Nevermind that the program entails some traveling which Glor found super exciting! Plus, the curriculum allows students the option of earning their degree within 3 years and they can also choose to earn a masters in just 5.
Our final college tour for the season was Boston College. We were so excited to visit this place and when we arrived and set foot on campus it did not disappoint. For such a busy city Boston College was easy to find. The campus was especially beautiful on a rather unsually warm autumn day. I have to admit, it’s by far the most beautiful campus we’ve seen yet. Once we arrived we were greeted by a group of students at the admissions hall with ‘light talk.’ The reception was somewhat aloof and quick. Then to a one hour session with the Dean of Admissions which was much better, as it was insightful and thorough (as one would expect). After spending some time with admissions and getting to know all the ins and outs of potential acceptance, off we went for a quick tour with two guides. But our tour turned out to be a total dud. After everything was said and done we were quite disappointed. We left with more questions than answers. Our guides did a lousy job showcasing the school. IMO they did a huge disservice to the school (I made sure to give them my feedback!). And to top it all off we couldn’t visit the dorms, classes or athletics area, they prefer you watch their Youtube video. Needless to say, for such a prestigious school they really dropped the ball. They could have done so much better.
