Halogen Shift Dress, Nordstrom // Steve Madden Heels // Lips, Estee Lauder in Scarlet Siren
Earrings, Charming Charlie, similar // Express Clutch // Initial Bracelet, Kate Spade
Tassel Bracelet, NY&CoI absolutely love shift dresses. I think that for the most part they complement most body types. It’s a comfortable dress to wear and you can accessorize with just about anything. But every so often you have to be careful with the cut.
Case in point: this is one of my Nordstrom #nsale items I rushed out to get. I ordered it online and although I’m happy with the purchase I think you may agree that it is a bit boxy. It runs big (you can see the gathered extra fabric in picture #5) and as such it makes you look heavier than normal, not what any woman is looking for!
I chose to wear the dress to a dinner and didn’t realize how roomy it was until I put it on (the pitfalls of online shopping). But by then it was too late to pick something else to wear as I had already planned on this outfit. I normally wear a size 8 or medium and I ended up exchanging it for a small.
The dress comes with a detachable white collar, you can see the sneak peek I posted here a couple weeks ago. Part of the reason I loved the dress is because you can play with it and create different looks. This time was just too hot to wear the collar so I’ll feature the dress again in the smaller size and with the attached collar in a fall season post.

You made the dress work, and I’m glad you were still able to exchange it for a size you can wear with confidence. When will we learn to order more than one size? Especially from a place like Nordstrom which makes returns easy?
